Living in
The charms of the castle of Rubí
It is doubtful that Rubí is one of the municipalities with more history of the region of the Western Vallés. Located just 17 kilometers from Barcelona and next to other important cities such as Tarrasa or Sabadell, Rubí has ??been inhabited since time immemorial, leaving for posterity authentic architectural wonders worth visiting as is the Rubí castle.Built in the 10th century, the Rubí Castle is one of the great symbols of this town. All a pride of heritage for its neighbors, and one of these great buildings better preserved and that has best borne the logical passage of time. Near to where he is, have been found by means of archaeological excavations a human occupation of an Iberian town which demonstrates the great importance of this one in the past of Rubí.It is a castle composed of three bodies, west (noble part), north and east, surrounding a courtyard in the south. This building has ele-shaped floors, something that differs from the stately fortresses of the time where the courtyard was in the middle of the buildings. The walls of the castle are of tapia with base of stone and the structure covered by a roof with battlements, at least in the east body. It also has three beautiful Gothic windows and a side façade with Gothic arches. At present we can find in it the Ecomuseu Urbà, where you can contemplate the permanent exhibition Riera de Identidades, a journey through the history of Rubí around the river, where the first settlers lived in this area. In addition it is surrounded by several green areas and an amphitheater where occasionally important events are celebrated for the municipality.

The Rubí castle as a museum

As in other towns, today the castle has been used to house an urban museum with the objective of hosting and preserving objects related to the local history of Rubí, promoting and organizing activities to disseminate and promote the history of Rubí and contribute thus actively in its investigation and dissemination and, how, to constitute a stable space of intercultural relations where the diverse historical, cultural and social realities of the city are represented. The archaeological remains found around the Castle of Rubí have been abundant, distributed by different zones as in slum of the Plana of the Castell or in the settlement of the hill of the Castle. One of the most remarkable is located on the north terrace of the Castle with a wall and a well considered one of the oldest found throughout Catalonia with a significant batch of Greek ceramics from the s. V and IV a.C., handmade Carthaginian and Iberian clay utensils. In fact, a silo of the settlement of the Castle, dated in the fourth century, is exhibited in the exhibition Riera de Identidades del Castillo Ecomuseu Urbà.
